Sony TV's Pehredaar Piya Ki, starring Tejasswi Prakash Wayagankar (Diya) and Afaan Khan (Ratan), has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The story of the show revolves around the marriage and relationship of a 8 year old prince with a 18 year old girl. While there might not be anything wrong with the concept, people have felt that the content is absurd. Protesters have been slamming the show for portraying child marriage in such a way that it might have a negative impact on the mind of people, especially children. There were reports that a rather blasphemous honeymoon sequence will also take place between Diya and Ratan in an upcoming episode. This lead to people filing petitions at Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), seeking a ban on the show. However, the producer of the show - Shashi Mittal has slammed all the protesters and revealed that all these reports are just rumours and there is no honeymoon sequence at all. She even goes on to question why are people protesting against the show based on one promo and hearsay?
While talking to the media at the press conference today, producer Shashi Mittal revealed, "The intention of calling people today is to tell you about the show. People can write whatever they want to after they know about the show. The basis of this whole controversy are rumours. I was shocked to know about the honeymoon sequence (between Diya and Ratan), which is not there at all. The facts are given in the episodes that have been telecasted. So it is better that people watch and then comment. On the show, people around him (Ratan) manipulate him to go on a honeymoon. But the girl (Diya) does not reciprocate to what he says because she knows people are spoiling his mind. I don't understand what made people start this controversy. People who have seen it and misjudged it or who have not seen it, are just reacting to one promo or hearsay." (ALSO READ - EXCLUSIVE! While talking about the complaint against the show at BCCC, the producer added, "We will clear our take before the BCCC. Will ask them to watch all the episodes and will abide by whatever they decide." Anyway, what is your take on the show? Share with us your thoughts in the comments section below!
