The controversy surrounding the biopic on the current Prime Minister of India PM Narendra Modi is just growing day-by-day. For those who are uninitiated, the movie was earlier dated to release on 12th April but for some reason, the makers shifted the release date to 5th April. The release is on hold as of yet as earlier a PIL was filed seeking a stay on the release of the film. The opposition parties had claimed that Omung Kumar's directorial was a propaganda film and its initial release (April 5) was planned with the motive of influencing voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Supreme court directed the EC to re-examine their order of stalling the release of the film. Just when we thought this was it, that the movie is hit with a new setback. Just a day after the supreme courts' order, not only the trailer of the PM Narendra Modi but also songs and dialogue promos have disappeared from Youtube and all social media platforms.
The agitated producer, Sandip Ssingh, told Mumbai Mirror, “It’s been a surprise film (in terms of setbacks) for me. I’ve made many films but never faced so many difficulties. The tough part is usually shooting a project but the troubles in the case of PM Narendra Modi, it began with the promotions Something new happens every day. We will approach the EC again and request them to allow us to reinstate promotional material.”
“My digital partners are ready to back out. I hope that every leader of the Opposition, be it the Congress, DMK or MNS, quickly realises that we are not a part of the Bhartiya Janata Party. and the Modi biopic is not a propaganda film. Let me say one last time, PM Narendra Modi is not funded by the BJP.'' he added.
With the film's stalling, the makers decided to show the film to the Election Commission. The producer is now hoping that the movie will inspire the commission members and allow them to release the film. ''“I’m hoping the EC is inspired by the story and allows us to release it. Meanwhile, I request every government body and all the courts of the land to not mix cinema and politics. Let films survive for the people,” he told the daily.
PM Narendra Modi stars Vivek Oberoi in the lead role along with Barkha Bisht, Boman Irani, Zarina Wahab, Prashant Narayanan, Darshan Kumaar and Manoj Joshi. The film is co-produced by by Suresh Oberoi and Aanand Pandit.
