The actress mentions that nobody knows much about Peshwa Bajirao and so the director can use a bit of creative liberty while making the film...
Yesterday, Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik threatened to stop the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani as he felt the film is a misinterpretation of Marathi culture and is even 'vulgar' at times. He urged the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to look into the issue and the CM has already asked his officials to investigate into the matter.
Though Bhansali has maintained that it is a work of fiction, the descendants of Bajirao and Mastani held a press conference and even filed a case to stop the release of the film as they felt hurt.
However, Priyanka Chopra who plays Kashibai in the film, told a leading daily that the film was entirely SLB’s vision and it was his right to present a particular story in the way he wants to.
Priyanka mentioned, "For me, whatever I have done is completely and absolutely going by Bhansali’s vision. The film is based on a book and the book is inspired by the life of a legend from the 1700s. It is entirely a director’s vision and prerogative about how he wants to present a particular story. And that’s what happens in a democratic country. How are we to say what Bajirao’s personality was in his personal life?”
She also revealed that not even the best of historians knew much about Bajirao. As she added, “How do we know he didn’t dance, smile or didn’t express happiness in his private life? We have to allow a director’s vision and imagination to portray what he thinks could have happened. We must just see it as nothing but the cinematic vision of an extremely prolific filmmaker.”
With so much controversy surrounding Bajirao Mastani, the film is getting more mileage. As film lovers and journalists, we just hope that everything is resolved and the film releases smoothly on December 18.
