There is no respect to the word feminist, says the actress
Bollywood and its stand on feminism has often been a territory under fire. From actresses claiming that they aren't feminist, to them having the wrong definition of feminism in their dictionary, B-Town has made headlines many times. Lisa Haydon and Parineeti Chopra faced flak over their stand on the same. Priyanka Chopra, the star of Quantico, once said that her show was not feminist. In a recent interview with a news daily the actress said she believes in woman power and is a feminist. But further says something that might upset the feminists and might throw some light on why people shy away from being called feminists these days, as well.
Priyanka Chopra said “I don’t say things just because I’m a feminist and I believe in woman power. That word (feminist) has been bastardized; there’s no respect to it anymore. I’m not berating men,” The actress adds that she is not being brash or berating men.
The actress recently faced flak on social media for saying in an interview that she would “beat the shit out of her man” if he ever cheats on her. Many labeled her as sexist for this remark. Coming out clean the actress said “It was a joke. Obviously, I’m not going to be violent. But the way it was written, it made it seem like I was serious and that I’ll actually whip the person. It was an analogy of the passion that I would feel [if a man cheats on me], not physical violence.”
Priyanka is currently in Madrid to attend the 17th edition of IIFA!
