The pro-Jalikattu protests dominated the news down South this week. Apart from local citizens, even celebs joined in the protest as they observed a fast for a day. Apart from that, Chiranjeevi's film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, a transgender model was signed on for her first Malayalam film, Trisha deactivated her Twitter account because of the hate mail she received for her PETA association. For the past one week, Tamil Nadu has been fighting against the ban on Jallikkatu - an ancient bull taming sport they play during Pongal. Along with thousands local citizens, celebs also voiced their support for the protest. Members of the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Star Association) Ajith Kumar, Rajinikanth, Trisha, Suriya, Karthi, Vishal, came together to observe a one day fast to show their support. Certain stars have even lashed out at PETA, who is responsible for this ban. The Supreme Court has upheld the ban since 2014 stating the sport caused fatal injuries to the animal and humans involved. Trisha deactivates the account
Trisha was shooting for Gajranai, the remake of NH10 but the schedule came to a complete halt when Pro-Jallikatu protestors forced them to stop the shoot. Considering Trisha has always been associated with PETA, all the protestors lashed out at her. To add to the tense situation, a tweet was posted on her account stating, she was against Jallikattu. She clarified that her account had been hacked but hate tweets poured in for her anti-Jallikattu stance. She then deactivated her account; soon after her mother asked for police protection.

Transgender model signs a Malayalam film
In a first of its kind, a transgender model Anjali Ameer signed her first Malayalam film opposite Mammotty. She plays one of the heroines in a film called - Pernabu. She underwent a successful sex assignment surgery two years ago. She had mentioned that her co-star Mammotty was very helpful.
Khaidi no 150 crosses the 100 crore mark
Chiranjeevi's comeback film Khaidi no 150 has been creating waves at the box office ever since it released on January 11. Within 5 days, the movie crossed the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide. Khaidi no 150 is the Telugu remake of Tamil movie Kaththi. It also stars Kajal Aggarwal. It is directed by VV Vinayak and produced by son Ram Charan.
