Social media star Qandeel Baloch who was murdered by her brother has been wiped off networking sites.
Her official Facebook page that hosted her photos and videos is no longer available, and her account on Instagram, also owned by Facebook, has been deleted, the Dawn reported. As per Facebook policy, an account which belongs to a deceased individual is automatically made into a memorialised account where friends and family can share memories.
However, according to Facebook’s help centre, “Pages with a sole admin whose account was memorialised will be removed from Facebook if we receive a valid request.” Her website Qandeelbaloch.com has been suspended but her Twitter handle is alive.
Baloch shot to fame with her racy social media posts, which enraged many in deeply conservative Pakistan. Baloch, real name Fauzia Azeem, was killed on July 15 in her family home in Multan in Punjab province. Her brother confessed to strangling her for dishonouring the family and bringing them to disrepute. Her mother, describing Baloch's corpse, said: "Her whole face was covered in bruises, her tongue was black, her lips were black."
Qandeel's father said his son, who killed the model-cum-actress for honour, should be "shot on sight"."I say he should be shot on sight. He suffocated my little one," Baloch's father Anwar Azeem said. According to the News International report on Friday, Baloch's parents voiced their pain at the murder of their daughter by their younger son Waseem, who killed her for bold posts and pictures on social media sites."We were drugged, asleep upstairs. She must have called out to us," Azeem said. Azeem said that his daughter was his "best friend" but claimed that his son Waseem had been "crazed".
The funeral prayers of Qandeel were offered in the village Shah Saddardin in Dera Ghazi Khan district on Sunday, Dawn news online reported.
