Unfortunately for us Indians, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and his struggles to liberate India with the help of INA or Azad Hind Fauj is something related to either a couple of a pages or max, a chapter in our history textbooks. We also don’t have many movies made on their struggles, except for Shyam Benegal’s Bose and a mention here and there in this year’s Rangoon, where Shahid Kapoor played a double agent for Azad Hind Fauj. Now Tigmanshu Dhulia, known for making Haasil and Paan Singh Tomar, is making a movie on the epic Red Fort trials involving three INA soldiers, Shah Nawaz Khan, Gurubaksh Singh Dhillon and Prem Sahgal.
The trailer of the movie, which was revealed by the makers some time back, re-tells this trial which was held between November and December 1945 and was set against the backdrop of general elections in India. All the three accused were prosecuted for waging a war against the British Kingdom. In addition, there were also charges of murder placed on Dhillon and as well as, for abetment to murder against Khan and Sahgal. However, despite their diverse religious identities, the Indian National Congress is said to have fought the case for them. Kunal Kapoor plays Shah Nawaz Khan and Amit Sadh plays Gurubaksh Singh Dhillon. It is really nice to see Sadh being a part of such different ventures instead being relegated to playing supporting roles in movies like Sultan. Mohit Marwah, Anil Kapoor’s nephew, who made his debut with Fugly, plays Prem Sahgal.
Here's the trailer...
The trailer looks very impressive and the movie looks like a worthy addition to Bollywood's little box of really good and meaningful cinema. Raag Desh is scheduled to release on July 28.
