Another Raaz movie makes its way to the theatres, but with a difference. Its a reboot now, though that doesn't make much sense in the context, since this is just another typical Vikram Bhatt film. So you have windows opening by themselves, creaking doors, possessed woman, dark secrets, unsurprising twists, and yeah, CGI crows. If by Reboot, they mean taking the story of the first Raaz film and making slight changes into it then, yeah, it is. But then that's the case with most of the horror films we have seen in Bollywood since the first Raaz. So what's new here? Let's get to the plot first...
Rehan (Gaurav Arora) and Shaina (Kriti Kharbanda), a married couple, move to Romania after he gets a better offer there. However, when they move into their new house, Rehan begins to act distant with Shaina, and refuses to get intimate with her. Not understanding the change in her husband's behaviour, she also begins to realise that they are not alone here. From seeing an eyeball in the sink to seeing someone under the bed, she tries to convince her husband about the intruder in their house, but to no avail. Slowly, she gets possessed by the spirit. To complicate matters, there is also Aditya (Emraan Hashmi), her junkie ex, who claims to know what's happening to her.
Raaz is a series that definitely needs a reboot, but this film is not an answer for that, at least till the interval. Vikram Bhatt uses the same tropes to scare us that we have seen in all the films till now, to the point that we can guess when the paranormal entity makes his/her appearance next. It also doesn't help matters that.the romantic songs feel forcibly interspersed in the narrative, because, you know, that's the tradition when it comes to Bollywood horror flicks. Some of the scenes, which were supposed to scare us, looks laughable.

When it comes to performances, Kriti Kharbanda's possessed act looks half amusing half decent. Gaurav Arora is surprisingly good, but doesn't get much to do till now. Emraan Hashmi makes a late entry, but again, has nothing new to do. The film reaches halfway point when Aditya reveals a dark Raaz about Rehan to Shaina. We get to the second half hoping that there is more to this Raaz that we have heard and seen.
