After Kaabil got a smooth release in Pakistan post the ban on Indian films were lifted, it was expected that Shah Rukh Khan's Raees will follow suit but unfortunately, that's not what happened. The film got banned for its content and that has left the director of the film pretty miffed. He took to Twitter to express his disappointment saying, "#raeesbanned in Pakistan ??? Outraged !! Dumbfounded!!"
IANS reported that the release of the Indian movie Raees, which was scheduled to hit Pakistani cinemas on Sunday, was on Monday banned for its “inappropriate” portrayal of Muslims. Rumours about the Mahira Khan and Shah Rukh Khan starrer releasing in Pakistan were ripe for the past one week. However, according to Dawn News, the Central Censor Board decided not to release the film in Pakistan. Sources in the know of the development told Dawn the reason behind it was that “the content undermines Islam, and a specific religious sect, (It also) portrays Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists”. Earlier, the film was in turbulent waters owing to the sour relations between Pakistan and India. Pakistani artistes were banned by certain outfits in India, due to which Mahira was not able to promote the film in India.
Now that definitely is a disappointing news for the makers of the film and completely understand Dholakia's sentiments. But it seems while Kaabil saw a smooth ride, Raees wasn't that lucky. Apart from fans, Mahira Khan, who debuted in Bollywood with the film, was ecstatic about its release during the press conference of Raees that was held recently. She had said, "You have no idea how much we wanted to get films back here. Raees is a big one. I was getting calls every day. Everyone’s waiting. You can’t even imagine. If you were here you would see how many calls I get asking is it coming.” But unfortunately, that's not going to happen after all.
