In Bollywood, there is a song for every occasion. Diwali, Holi, Eid, Ganpati, – hell we have a song for Chicken being available at an eatery, remember Chicken Kukkad Koo from Bajrangi Bhaijaan. So today is Rakhsha Bandhan, the joyous occasion in India to celebrate the bond between a brother and a sister, and of course we have songs about that too.
Over the time our Bollywood has come up with some pretty awesome and soulful tracks about siblings. But let’s admit the songs from the pre 90’s era remain amongst the favourite ones. So let’s begin our day by remembering these ‘old is gold’ songs about Raksha Bandhan.
Phoolon Ka Taron Ka (Hare Rama Hare Krishna)
One of the most popular Rakhi songs, this one featuring Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman is one of the best portrayals of the bhai-behen rishta in a movie till date.
Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke (Choti Behan)
The song featuring Nanda and Balraj Sahani shows the choti behan and bada bhai bonding.
Behana Ne Bhai Ki Kalai Se Pyar (Resham Ki Dori)
This film starring Dharmendra and Kumud Chuggani was based on the brother-sister relationship and this song from the film became so popular that it is still a favourite on Raksha Bandhan.
Rang Birangi Rakhi Lekar (Anpadh)
This song featuring Mala Sinha and Balraj Sahni shows how Rakhi is celebrated with fun, laughter and dance.
Nahin Mein Nahin Dekh Sakta Tujhe Rote Hue (Majboor)
This emotional song featuring Farida Jalal and Amitabh Bachchan makes us understand the true emotional connection between siblings. Amitabh realises that he may not live that long to perform the kanyadaan of his handicapped sister and so she starts crying. However, Amitabh can’t see her cry and tries to cheer her up.
Rakhi Dhagon Ka Tyohar (Rakhi)
This number by Mohammed Rafi is so underrated.
Mere Bhaiyya Mere Chanda (Kaajal )
In the voice of Asha Bhosle, this song is a timeless classic. The movie featured Meena Kumari, Raaj Kumar & Dharmendra.
