The film is directed by Anurag Kashyap.
After the debacle of Bombay Velvet, Anurag Kashyap is returning to his indie flicks, which is definitely glad news for all his fans. After all, the director shines best when it comes to making films free of studio interference (though Censor always plays the trouble maker every time!). Be it his unreleased Paanch, the gritty Black Friday, the stunning Gangs of Wasseypur or the grim but excellent Ugly, it's in these 'small' films that we are able to witness the real talent of Anurag Kashyap.
So after working (and failing) with Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in his last venture, Anurag Kashyap returns to direct Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vicky Kaushal in the dark thriller, Raman Raghav 2.0. Nawazuddin plays the titular character, which is a modern take on the notorious serial killer Raman Raghav who tormented the streets of Mumbai in the '70s, before he was apprehended. Vicky Kaushal plays a cop hot on the heels of this deranged killer. We have all been impressed by the teasers and the psychedelic posters of the film. Now that the trailer is out...let's see how it fares...
As expected, the trailer has a very dark tone, and every character, even the cop played by Vicky Kaushal, has definite shades of grey. After all, only in an Anurag Kashyap film can you have a film with the villain as the title character while then hero is coke-snorting, girlfriend beater. And as expected (I am using this phrase again, because it met all my expectations...), the trailer is quite chilling and blows you away! What works best are the little moments of humour in the gritty proceedings, which is an Anurag Kashyap specialty, like the last scene of the trailer!
