While major Bollywood banners announce release dates of their big projects and claim their box office win on major holidays and festivals, there is one film announcement that everyone is waiting for. We are talking about Ayan Mukerji's ambitious action fantasy, Brahmastra, which has been in the news for quite a while now. The project was announced almost two years ago and a few pictures of its lead cast, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor also did the rounds of social media. In fact, a comic poster featuring Alia and Ranbir in their never-seen-before avatars had raised the audience expectations.
Brahmastra is said to be first part of a trilogy, and it was supposed to release by August 2019. The movie was pushed to Christmas then to February 2020 and finally to December 2020 due to the pending VFX work and remaining shoot. However, because of the pandemic situation in the country, the makers halted the shoot temporarily and its release was pushed indefinitely.
But fans, who have been waiting for long, can rejoice as Bollywood Life has exclusively learnt that the makers of Brahmastra have finalised their film's release date. They are planning to make the mega announcement on Alia's birthday on March 15.
"The makers of Brahmastra have wrapped up shooting the remaining portions of the film. They are currently in the editing phase and have finalised the film's release date. A special announcement is on its way which will happen on Alia's birthday. Though the movie majorly rides on Ranbir's shoulders, but he is happy about the major annoucement being made on his girlfriend's birthday. The two have been dating for more than two years now and there's no space for insecurities between them," a source close to the Brahmastra team told Bollywood Life.
Apart from Alia and Ranbir, Brahmastra also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy in key roles. The film draws its name from Mahabharat, where Brahmastra was a lethal supernatural weapon capable of destroying the entire universe. It is not known what element the plot of the film draws from the epic, since all details are kept under wraps.
Alia recently shared a couple of stills from the set of Brahmastra wherein she was seen posing in front of a huge idol of Goddess Kali along with Ranbir and the film's director Ayan.
