Yes! The actors have finally spoken about the controversy revolving around their film!
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus film, Bajirao Mastani has been under the radar for a while now. From the time the song Pinga released, the film has been severely scrutinized. The controversy reached its peak when activists and the descendants of Bajirao and Mastani filed petitions against the film. Now while all the actors maintained silence during the promotions when asked about the controversy, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone have finally broken the silence! Yes! In an interview with a leading portal, the actors spoke up about what they think of the film and how it is unfortunate that the film is embroiled in legal problems.
Deepika was quoted saying, “You never make movies to intentionally irk anyone or to hurt people’s sentiments. The only thing that we are trying to do is a) educate the audience about Bajirao and Mastani and in fact the love story that they’re portraying or what Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vision is is a very very small chapter in the larger scheme of things.” The actress also spoke about how the director has just taken an angle out of the entire life of Peshwa Bajirao being the love story of Bajirao and Mastani and that it should be post the release of the film that people should have objections about it instead of reacting even before watching the film. Deepika added that the intention of making a film is always to educate the masses and also through that to entertain the audience.
Deepika in fact, also coined a new word to describe Bajirao Mastani as “histro-fictional.” And both the actors also assured that the film will have a disclaimer and that the film is not a propaganda film but a mainstream film. Ranveer Singh also stated that the director has called the film fictional and that he was inspired by a book named, Peshwe Gharanyacha Itihas and it’s his interpretation of the book whose story he has incorporated in the film.
Wow! That’s a lot of information that should suffice for all the people questioning the film. Tell us if you’re excited to watch the film next week in the comments section below!
