This week has been a pretty eventful one for fans of Telugu cinema and to some extent Tamil cinema too. Pawan Kalyan's Sardaar Gabbar Singh and SS Rajamouli's Baahubali managed to make big news yet again. The week started out with Baahubali adding yet another achievement as it featured in an international film festival. This was followed by a very surprising and exciting casting of Ilayathalapathy's next film Vijay 60. Later in the week, we saw Thala Ajith Kumar kick up some fuss against Nadigar Sangam's upcoming event and the return of an ace comedian. But the biggest highlight has obviously been the release of the second biggest film in Telugu cinema after Baahubali, Sardaar Gabbar Singh. So, without much further ado, here is a detailed look at the top 5 happenings that managed to grab everyone's attention...
Baahubali screened at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival
It was the national awards last week and this week it has gained some serious international recognition. Baahubali: The Beginning had been chosen to be a contender in the annual Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival or BIFFF as it is well known as. It is one of the biggest honours in world cinema for horror, science fiction and fantasy. The fact that the SS Rajamouli epic has made it in such a prestigious festival is no mean feat. It was screened on April 6. Baahubali became the only Indian film to represent the country in BIFFF which is screening over a hundred different movies. After conquering China, Japan and Germany, the Prabhas starrer is slowly extending its influence throughout the globe.
Jagapathi Babu and Daniel Balaji in Vijay 60
Vijay is the talk of the town mainly because of his upcoming film Theri. But his next project is already garnering a lot of attention. The casting of this Bharathan directorial, titled as Vijay 60, is still underway and two of the most important characters were cast on the same day. First, there was talk that Jagapathi Babu, a veteran actor who is very famous in Tollywood, will be playing the villain in the film. Later, Vetaiyadu Velaiyadu's notorious baddie Daniel Balaji’s name came up. It finally turned out that, in a fantastic decision, the makers of the film have roped in both these amazing actors to play negative roles in the Ilayathalapathy film. It has been ages since Vijay faced off against two bad guys so things are looking very promising indeed.
Ajith and Vijay to possibly boycott Nadigar Sangam’s Star Cricket Night
So as everyone knows by this point, Nadigar Sangam is planning to host a mega cricket event in which all big Kollywood stars will participate to raise funds for the construction of a new building for the Sangam. The event will even be graced by Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, yet a very big actor is rumoured to be unhappy with this tournament. Ajith Kumar has supposedly slammed the association for collecting funds from the public. There are also talks that after this shocking altercation, both Thala and Vijay will boycott the Star Cricket Night. Although, no real confirmation has been made so we hope that these rumours are not true.
Vadivelu returns to cinema with Vishal’s Kathi Sandai
One comedian whom Kollywood has been sorely missing over the last few years has been Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu. Last active sometime in 2012, he has been off the grid for a very long time. However, he made an unsatisfying entry last year through his film Eli. But this time, the ace comedian is back for good in Vishal’s next film titled Kathi Sandai. The two last worked together in a film over ten years ago, so this is a very special film for both Vishal and Vadivelu, who always shared an excellent rapport. Fans of quality comedy in Tamil movies will be really delighted with this news because, Kollywood has become a monopoly of actor Santhanam, with a little fight from Soori once in awhile. With Vadivelu’s return in the market, we can expect a lot more variety in our comedies now.
Release of Sardaar Gabbar Singh
The day that Pawan Kalyan fans were waiting for months finally dawned on April 8, as the film Sardaar Gabbar Singh finally hit the screens. It also marked an entry of sorts for the Powerstar into Bollywood as the film was also released in Hindi. It has already shattered a few records in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and has been extremely well received by his fans in both the states. But, the general verdict of the film has not been a very good one outside of the two states and after so much excitement and anticipation, the film ended up being an anticlimactic super average film with nothing much to look forward too except the comedy and Pawan Kalyan himself.
