Dipa became the first Indian in the history to qualify for Vaults
There was hue and cry when Salman Khan was appointed as the brand ambassador for Indian contingent for Rio Olympics 2016. The actor was coming out with a sports driven film Sultan and the move was said to be driven by that very fact. Bollywoodlife even had a live debate on the topic back then and I was speaking in favour. But seems like despite the constant support he is getting, the actor forgot quite a big part of the job that he took up. Not forgetting the names of the sport star he is promoting!
At the trailer launch of his brother Sohail Khan’s film Freaky Ali, which co-incidentally again is a sports driven flick, the actor said something that highlights his ignorance on the current topics. When asked at the event to name a player he is paying attention to, the actor, puzzled, replied “Dipti…I thought... it was... was it Deepika? I thought she was going to win gold but she came eighth, no?” Well no Sultan! Her name is Dipa and she came in 8th and qualified for the finals where she will compete for gold. Don’t give people more reasons to raise fingers at the decision of appointing you as the brand ambassador.
Funny enough, Dipa was the first sportsperson Salman promoted on his Instagram by sharing a picture of her. He captioned the pic “Let's cheer our 2016 Olympic stars. Here's Dipa Karmakar #YouMakeUsProud”
