Apart from the kickboxer-turned-actress, wrestler Sangram Singh too shared his opinion with Bollywoodlife..
Ever since Salman Khan has been named as the face of the Indian Contingent for Rio Olympics 2016, he has been facing flak from few sports persons namely Yogeshwar Dutt and Flying Jatt Milkha Singh. On the other hand few other celebrities and sportpersons support the appointment and believe that Salman’s presence in the Rio Olympics will benefit the field of sports to a huge extent.
Bollywoodlife exclusively got in touch with real life kick-boxer Ritika Singh who made her Bollywood debut with Rajkumar Hirani’s Saala Khadoos and also Indian wrestler Sangram Singh to know their thoughts on the Sultan hero being appointed as the good will ambassador.
Ritika Singh, “In India unfortunately cricketers are the most popular sports people and after that there is Mary Kom and Vijender Singh, these are boxers and many people don’t know about. People know Mary Kom because there was a film made on her. Salman Khan is ultimately the most popular actor in Bollywood right now and his fan base extends to a whole new level. I am a sportsperson and I’m so glad that Salman is the brand ambassador for Rio Olympic Games. Right now I’m doing films but my ultimate goal and focus is when I have that power, when I have that fame (through the movies I do) I want to use to it to give something back to my sports that is kick boxing and karate. There are so many achievers in sports but people don’t know about them because only cricketers have been given the attention. But I am so glad at the same that sports like Kabaddi, Badminton and football are coming up.
Sangram Singh, “I don’t think there should be anyone disagreeing because it is a good thing that Salman Khan is the goodwill ambassador. He is a superstar and he being a part of it will benefit sports hugely. Also Salman has a mass fan following and even they will watch other sports apart from cricket. Salman is the kind of person who will do everything possible for the sports and sportsperson; he is a man of his words. This is a useless controversy going on, one man is trying to do something good for all us without any selfish motto and without charging any money, we should be happy that he is a part of it rather than creating a controversy about it. It’s a good that a superstar is being a part of sports. I am a wrestler and he is doing a film on wrestling. That will also benefit us. We should welcome him happily because it will profit all of us and people should understand that. Like for example if any sportsperson would be an ambassador his or her reach would be limited but Salman Khan has a reach in worldwide and that will be very helpful."
