Sacred Games writer Varun Grover calls out Kajol's Helicopter Eela trailer for not crediting the lyricist

On Kajol's birthday today, the first trailer of her upcoming film, Helicopter Eela, was launched. The movie features the actress playing a mother who starts studying at her teen son's college. The trailer is heartwarming and endearing making us believe it is the kind of movie we all should look forward. But seems like Helicopter Eela has already generated its first controversy. National Film Award-winning lyricist and writer, Varun Grover has called out the trailer on social media for not crediting the lyricist, Swanand Kirkire. Varun is an accomplished writer whose latest work includes the critically acclaimed web series, Sacred Games. He has also won the National Film Award for penning the poetic lyrics of Moh Moh Ke Dhaage for the movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha. He noted that after the Helicopter Eela trailer ends, there is a credits plate that names pretty much all the artists who worked on the film, except for one - the lyricist. Rightly pointing out, he wrote, "This new film's trailer is cut mostly on songs. They have credited everybody in the title-plate at the end EXCEPT the lyrics writer(s) (including Swanand Kirkire). All you need to know how dispensable they think we are. Shameful." Now, that he has brought to our notice, we do realise that Helicopter Eela trailer has quite a few songs. Music composer Amit Trivedi has been credited on the plate. It would have been better to see the lyricists name on the plate given his contribution to the movie. Varun's tweet has also been retweeted by Vishal Dadlani. Helicopter Eela, directed by Pradeep Sarkar looks like a progressive, positive movie that Bollywood can certainly use. It would be a shame to have controversy attached to it. We hope the error is fixed soon enough. Or at least a statement is issued explaining the reason.

Let us hope Bollywood learns to give credit where it is due!
