The Voice India, which first aired in 2015, had Bollywood singers Shaan, Himesh Reshammiya, Mika Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan as judges. For season 2 music composer and singer Salim Merchant will be joining the panel of coaches. “I’m delighted to be a coach on ‘The Voice India Season 2’. It’s a show that truly captures singing talents in the most pure yet unique way,” Merchant confirmed.
He added: “My favourite part of the show is the blind audition- where the coaches react after they listen to the voice without seeing the singer. It will be exciting for us coaches and the audience to see how the singers choose their respective coaches and how the teams get formed to get ready for the battle.”
Shaan, who was a judge on the first season of &TV’s popular show The Voice India, will reportedly no longer be a part of the upcoming season. A source close to the development told a leading portal, “Shaan is already a judge on The Voice India Kids, another &TV show. Endemol (producer) is looking out for a replacement who can step into his shoes. However, Shaan has yet not been told about this — neither by Endemol nor &TV.”
The auditions were going to start from 28 August 2016 but because of some technical glitches it got postponed. Registrations are now open for The Voice India 2016 auditions. Participants between the age of 16 years to 30 years can participate in The Voice India 2016.
The Voice India consists of three phases: a Blind Auditions, a Battle Phase and Live Performance shows. Four coaches choose teams of contestants through a blind audition process. Each coach has the length of the auditioner’s performance (about 90 seconds) to decide if he or she wants that singer on his or her team; if two or more coaches want the same singer, then the singer gets to choose their coach.
The show will air on &TV in December.
