The D-day is finally here. Fingers crossed!
The hearing in the illegal Arms Act case against Salman Khan is expected to take place today. On February 25, a local court deferred the judgement in the Arms Act case related to the 1998 black buck poaching incident, saying four pending applications from the prosecution have come to light on which it will decide on March 3.
The 49-year-old actor is currently busy with Sooraj Barjatya's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. His other film Bajrangi Bhaijaan being directed by Kabir Khan has wrapped up shooting and is currently in post-production stage for a mid-year release. Bollywood trade analyst Komal Nahta said Salman has approximately Rs 150 crore riding on him for these two films alone, besides another Rs 50 crore for the projects that he has signed.
The Arms Act case against Salman is an offshoot of the Black buck poaching incident 16 years ago near Jodhpur. Salman was in Jodhpur for the shooting of Hindi movie Hum Saath Saath Hain when the incident occurred. The two black bucks, a protected animal under the Wildlife Protection Act, were killed on the outskirts of Kankani village near Jodhpur.
Salman also has three poaching cases against him. He has twice spent time in the Jodhpur jail – in April 2006 and again in August 2007. His appeal is pending in the Rajasthan High Court.
