This Eid, Salman Khan is back with his new movie, Tubelight, that that star has promised to be a movie just for your families. Directed by Kabir Khan, Tubelight is based on the Hollywood movie Little Boy, and is set against the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-China War. The movie also stars Chinese actress Zhu Zhu, the little tot Matin Rey, Sohail Khan, Om Puri and Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo. Tubelight is expected to break all the records that Bajrangi Bhaijann, Salman and Kabir's last collaboration, had set.
However the movie has got mixed response from the critics, with the general consensus that it is nowhere near the entertainment value of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The movie was praised for its good intentions, Salman Khan's performance as well as that of the supporting cast and Shah Rukh Khan's cameo. However, the critics were unhappy with the over melodramatic approach as well as the haphazard screenplay in the second half. Salman Khan fans meanwhile had a different grouse - Tubelight was not a typical Bhai movie where he is bashing villains and serenading the heroine. Here, he is actually crying a lot and getting beaten up by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.
But Salman Khan is unfazed by the reaction his production is getting. During a recent event, Salman Khan said that he had actually expected ratings like -3 and -4 so he was happy with the 1.5 rating that the movie got. He also said that people have a different kind of expectations when it comes to his Eid releases. They want scenes where they want to throw money at the screen, but they got what in the movie was different, he explained. He said, "The critics were really good. I was expecting minus 3 and minus 4 but they gave 1, 1.5 apparently, so i am very pleased, As per reports people are saying they can not see 'Bhai' (Salman) crying. So I asked, are they (audience) laughing and the answer was "no, they are crying". So I said don't worry about it."
"As it is an Eid release, people have preconceived notions and plans to throw coins, sing and dance at the cinema hall. So they have gone to watch a certain film but get to watch another film. This film is not of a kind which you watch with your buddies as you will not get an opportunity to dance or have fun. It is a very emotional film. Even an emotionless, stone hearted person will get tears in his eyes. So this is an emotional film to be seen with parents, grand parents and entire family."
In the end this is what Salman Khan has to say about whether the movie will work or not, "Look at me, are there any sign of worries on this face. I am not bothered, I know the film will do well and will be a hit and get lot of respect."
