Looks like the actor would leave before his actual term…
Sanjay Dutt was convicted for the possession of an AK-47 before the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, is currently serving his sentence of five years at the Pune’s Yerawada jail. Sanjay Dutt’s conviction came as a shock to the film industry and since then he has come out a few times on parole and furloughs. Even though the actor was jailed at the age of 50, the actor has managed to maintain a clean sheet for his good behaviour. A report on a leading daily has claimed that the actor’s jail term might get cut short by six months thanks to his good behaviour. The rulebooks say that an inmate can get a respite of 114 days if they have behaved well during their term in jail.
The report also said that the jail authorities are checking the details of this clause. The actual clause according to the report states that if an inmate behaves well, he gets three days’ leave and if he does a commendable job on the field, he gets four days’ off and is hence calculated in this format. Apart from this, if the inmate displays good behaviour throughout the year, he is entitled to a minimum of 30 days’ leave. The right for these leaves lie in the hands of the sub-supervisors, chief supervisors and senior police officials. They would grant the leave that they deem to be correct.
Sanjay Dutt has behaved very well in his tenure so on an average of seven days per month and 30 days a year, the actor can get a leave of about 114 days. If all goes well, then the release date of Sanjay Dutt will be six months prior to the actual date. Well, we just hope that all goes well and he leaves prison earlier than speculated.
