Sanju: CBFC removes the 'overflowing toilet' scene from Ranbir Kapoor starrer for this reason

We are just one day away from the release of the highly-anticipated film, Sanju. In this biopic, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen essaying the role of Bollywood controversial actor Sanjay Dutt and will portray his various stages of life. Including the time Sanjay spent in prison. And it is exactly one of such scenes in the movie that landed it in trouble. One of the most impactful scenes in the movie was when the titular character is locked up in a cell and the toilet starts overflowing. CBFC has asked the makers to remove the scene from the movie for "aesthetic reasons".

Mid Day quoted a source saying, "The scene wasn't adding value to the narrative besides displaying the helpless situation of the protagonist. It was a judgment call taken from an artistic point of view which the filmmakers agreed to." So, don't be surprised when you watch the movie and do not see the shocking scene on the big screen. We wonder if it has something to do with the complaint filed against the said scene earlier. Activist Prithvi Maske had written to authorities earlier condemning the scene and calling it out for propagating a wrong idea about the condition of prisoners. He is happy with the cut. "I was in touch with the CBFC and they assured me that my objection would be taken up with the makers of Sanju and addressed. The reason why the scene was cut is confidential information and will be given to me in a response, officially signed by CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi," Prithvi said.

Though Mid Day also cites one of their earlier interviews where Rajkumar Hirani, director of the film, had said that the incident happened with Sanjay Dutt in 1993 during monsoon.

Sanju also stars Paresh Rawal, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Karishma Tanna, Vicky Kaushal, Jim Sarbh amongst others.
