Sarrainodu music review: SS Thaman delivers an album that is high on energy but low on creativity!

Another mediocre album to hit the shelves after Sardaar Gabbar Singh...

After a smashing teaser and an energetic item number released a couple days back, the day Allu Arjun fans have been waiting for is finally here. The music for Sarrainodu is here. The music is composed by famed composer SS Thaman who is a musical giant in Tollywood. Let us see if he delivered a blockbuster album or not...

Athiloka Sundari

The very first song in this actioner is a soft romantic song called Athiloka Sundari. Looks like this song is all about the hero fawning all over his love interest. The song begins gently with guitar strumming, followed by a little female chorus. Then Vishal Dadlani starts singing in his rocking voice and holds all your attention. Interestingly, this number uses a lot of nadaswaram trying to make the song more traditional. Although the song is nice to listen to in the beginning, about the halfway mark it becomes little tiresome. On a whole, a nice song but not something that will stay on your mind for long.

You are my MLA

A very unique sounding title, the song is also quirky enough to keep you interested. It is a light and fun song that also has a romantic feel to it. This is more modern than Athiloka Sundari and has a good use of techno mixed with traditional instruments like flute. It is sung by Dhanunjay with a whole lot of autotune. In the end, a nice song but if you are wondering what is a weird word like MLA doing in a love song, well, it is just a short form for My Little Angel. Now that makes more sense.

Private Party

As the title states, it is clearly a party song that is all about booze, dance and fast cars. This song has a real EDM feel to it. Thaman has craftily made it very peppy and dance worthy so that it appeals to the younger audience, and indeed it is an amazing number to blast at a party. It is sung by M.C.Vickey and Manasi M.M. Their voices lends more energy to this pumped up song. An enjoyable song by itself, it does sound a little similar to You are my MLA in its techno components.

Blockbuster

Perhaps the best song in the entire album so far, it has all the components for a perfectly entertaining item song. Thaman uses drums liberally that makes this number a really exciting one. Shreya Ghoshal voice is surprisingly sultry and naughty, a perfect combination for this song. She is joined by Nakash Aziz, who adds fun and zest to the song, making it truly a blockbuster. But the highlight of the song is Allu Arjun himself whose crazy dancing skills will mesmerize you.

Telusaa Telusaa

While all the above songs had a fun element in it, this one is all earnest and passionate. Most of the songs in the album are loud, but Telusaa Telusaa has a very welcoming softness and melody that will really make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Sameera Bharadwaj's voice is silken magic as she croons this intense love song. She is well supported by Jubin Nautiyal. Thaman provides softer music that is easy on the ears and makes this song a welcome change in the album.

Sarrainodu

The title track is a fast number that is sung by Brijesh Shandilya and Sonu Kakkar. It begins as an aggressive song with a neat rap by popular Bollywood singer Hard Kaur. But it later becomes slower and takes on a form of a duet. Sarrainodu has a distinctive Punjabi sound to it with use of dhol and nagada. It is loud and chaotic, almost like all the songs on the album and it really doesn't suit well for a title track. A man of SS Thaman's standards can surely do better.

Our Verdict

Looks like Telugu films are suffering from a lack of great music. Having a song called Blockbuster is just not enough to ensure a great album, although it is the best song of the lot. On the whole a very average album and the lack of variety really starts to tire you out by the end of it. But each song is good to be listened to separately, it is the final product that is a letdown.

Our Pick

Blockbuster.
