Sasural Simar Ka: Here's how characters like Simar propagate abuse against women!

Enough has been said about men who ill treat women. But what about women who refuse to stand up for themselves and spread this practice? Well Simar is a clear example...

There's no denying the fact that Sasural Simar Ka, is one of the most ridiculous shows on TV today. Be it vile characters like the Naagin played by Sara Khan, or the lame track of the story overall, this show may top the charts but the truth of the matter is that it has lost its plot. In the last episode, we saw Rajveer(Siddharth Vasudev) revealing that Prem(Dheeraj Dhoopar) has bet his wife Simar(Deepika Samson) in a game, to seek his property from the former. Simar was shocked to learn the same along with Mataji, who blamed Prem and questioned him for his disgusting behaviour. I was expecting Simar to slap Prem but to my utter amazement, she went ahead and did the same to Rajveer! And what was her reason? Well Simar believes that Prem is pure and has a golden heart. There's NO WAY he would have done anything wrong, unless irked by Rajveer. So instead of punishing Prem, Simar decides to teach Rajveer a lesson. My reaction? *slow clap* This very behaviour by Simar, is responsible for promoting the idea that women can tolerate any amount of nonsense. Though women has started speaking up and standing up for their rights, there are many out there who continue to suffer. The Indian mentality is dominantly patriarchal, where the belief system presents a man next to God. A pati is her husband's "devta" and she is supposed to sacrifice, for his happiness. Simar's anger was channelled only against Rajveer, which is precisely my problem. She spared her husband Prem, who bloody bet her for a game! Had she decided to punish both of them equally, the same would have made sense. There are several women who continue to believe that their husband can do no wrong, whatever atrocities may come their way. There are others who stand by the fact that they are MEANT to suffer, as the male in the house has an upper hand. Till when can we blame men when it's the women who fail to stand up for themselves? On-screen characters like Simar are making discrimination against women acceptable, by letting their husbands, off the hook. Prem might have been irked, but what about the fact that he let Rajveer manipulate him and went ahead to bet his own wife? Is Simar THAT spineless to overlook this fact? By choosing to spare Prem, Simar has proven that she is the poorest example of what women should be like. In an era where women are striving for equal rights and fair treatment, narrow minded and regressive shows like Sasural Simar Ka are NOT helping!
