At the start of 2020, producer Dinesh Vijan announced that he is making a crazy comedy film starring powerhouse performers like Rajkummar Rao, Kriti Sanon, Dimple Kapadia and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles. The movie is going to be directed by Abhishek Jain and shoot will begin soon. Now, it has been reported that the film is titled Second Innings. Abhishek told Mid Day, "The title fits our story seamlessly." It seems the movie has all set to go on the floors from March but the pandemic halted the progress. Jain told Mid Day, "We were supposed to begin shooting in Delhi in March, but now everything has been pushed due to the pandemic."
The plot of the film is about Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon who adopt parents to fill in the void in their lives. Talking about the concept, Dinesh Vijan earlier said, "This innovative idea came from real life though it is not inspired by any incident in particular. We have spun it into a crazy comedy with our unique tadka." Kriti Sanon has earlier done films with Dinesh Vijan like Raabta, Luka Chuppi and Arjun Patiala. She also has Mimi with the same production house.
It seems Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon were all set to collaborate for another project. But it did not materialise that well. Dinesh said, "That project wasn’t working out, so, one day, over a cup of coffee, I sketched out this idea to them and they jumped at it. Raj and Kriti came on board even before the script were written." Rajkummar Rao has also had a long association with the production house. He has done films like Stree and Made In China with them.
Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon have come together in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's Bareilly Ki Barfi in the year 2017. The movie also had Ayushmann Khurrana. Fans had adored Rao's performance in the film.
