This new bill is so damn questionable!
Another bill that's here to curb one's freedom of living in India. Although Shah Rukh Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, Aamir Khan and everyone else who opted for surrogacy before the enforcement of this new bill might be relieved right now but just so that you know, the Government has approved a Bill that bans commercial surrogacy, and bars married couples who have biological or adopted children, singles, live-in partners and homosexuals from opting for surrogacy from here on. That's right! The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016 cleared by the Cabinet, only allows “altruistic surrogacy” for childless couples who have been married for at least five years; that too with conditions stating that the surrogate mother should be a “close relative” of the couple, should be married and have borne a child of her own.

For all the ignorant, Shah Rukh Khan's 3 year old son AbRam and Aamir Khan's son Azad are surrogate babies. And so is Tusshar Kapoor's recently born child, Lakshya! However, had they opted for surrogacy this year or anyone else who is willing to do so in future, would unfortunately never really get the opportunity to do so! In fact, without taking names, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj too said it was “unfortunate” that couples, who already have a son and a daughter of their own, opt for surrogacy “just because it is fashionable”. “We do not recognise homosexual or live-in relationships, that is why they are not allowed to commission babies through surrogacy. It is against our ethos." argues Swaraj.
But the question is, is this new law an underhand way to ban homosexuality and live-in relationships in India for moreover to surrogacy, it's the mention of homosexuals and live-in partners that's majorly being highlighted in this new bill. Where is our freedom of living? Where is one's freedom of choice? Though adoption is always an option but can we not leave it on the indivuals to decide what they want in life?
