Rangoon is one of the most promising movies of the year, simply due to the name attached to the project - Vishal Bhardwaj. Vishal Bhardwaj has given us some memorable cinematic gems like Omkara, Maqbool, Kaminey, Makdee and Haider. Though he has his occasional failings (Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, 7 Khoon Maaf), they are not exactly trashy going by Bollywood standards. So it is with much excitement that we are waiting for his next, Rangoon, especially with the cast that he has brought together for this movie - Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut.
As you are aware, if you have seen the first trailer, Rangoon is a World War II based romance featuring three players - a hot shot movie director, a popular actress and an Indian soldier serving in the British army. It is not easy to recreate the same era in the 21st century, especially since the major portions of the movie is supposed to be set in Burma. So the makers have gone for the best alternative available, shoot for the movie in the picturesque Arunachal Pradesh, which also happens to be one of the least populated states in India. But it was really cold there and the locales where they shot the sequences were in difficult terrain. Shahid Kapoor even said that this was the most difficult schedule he has ever shot for in his career.

Rangoon is scheduled to release on February 24. Vishal Bharadwaj has already mentioned that the movie has drawn inspirations from the likes of Casablanca, but after seeing the trailer, we do beg to differ. Rangoon is definitely a different beast of its own, and we are sure VB will make a movie that will stand out from the rest of its peers with its cinematic quality.
