The next big release of this year is Rangoon. The Vishal Bhardwaj directorial stars Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. The movie was given a U/A certificate about a month ago after dealing with objections raised by CBFC over the smoking scenes and a few curse words. But from what we hear, the latest the movie has faced the scissor again.
Rangoon went under a fresh edit, and a number of, as big as, 70 shots were chopped off from the film. The film's original runtime was 2 hours 47 minutes, while the new runtime after the edit is 2 hours 34 minutes. DNA reports that the makers submitted the movie to CBFC, for re-certification, once again after the new changes made to the print. If the sources quoted by the news daily are to be believed the new version of the film looks better than the previous one. "The product looks slicker and feels lighter. When Board members saw it they immediately warmed up to the re-edited product." a source said.
Another source added that the earlier version was "done too early". They also said that the fresh edition that was submitted on Monday was "loved" by the Board. "I think the earlier version of Rangoon was done too early. This was done so it could be eligible for some festivals. A freshly edited version came to us on Monday and we loved it." the report reads.
Rangoon is a romantic drama, a love triangle, set in the backdrop of World War II. Kangana plays Janbaaz Julia, a fiery actress in the 1940's. And Shahid Kapoor plays an army soldier. Talking about sharing the screen with Saif and Kangana, he said in an exclusive interview with Bollywoodlife, "You can’t really make movies about one guy all the time. Right? You want to be a part of a good film you have to learn to participate in it completely.” Shahid then went on to explain, “You watched The Revenant? Do you think Tom Hardy had a lesser role than Leonardo – would Leonardo say ‘NO! Can't you have this character in the movie’? Honestly, it is a very kiddish way of looking at films. Films are a much more evolved medium than that and I think the audience is also very evolved. People want to watch good content."
