Shahid Kapoor - Kareena Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan - Katrina Kaif - watch the most controversial kisses of Bollywood!

These lip-locks generated enough heat to make everyone uncomfortable!

Lip-locks in Hindi films are common these days, so much that only one in five films will be the one that won't be having a kissing scene. In fact, the only surprise factor left if any actors kiss each other, is if one of the actors happened to be Salman Khan. Another proof that kissing is getting so common is that Emraan Hashmi is finding it difficult to score a hit these days!

But this was not always the case!

In those olden, not so golden days (as far as onscreen kissing goes...), whenever two actors locked lips, it created a lot of furor as if it was the most alien thing ever to do. In a country with the second highest population, where kissing was previously shown in movies by touching two flowers (I want to find that person from whom this idea originated!), the actual depiction of the act had caused a few minor heart attacks. Even in this 21st century. some of us are yet to get over that hangover!

Let's look at 12 such controversial kisses in Hindi cinema that rocked out boats!

Madhuri Dixit - Vinod Khanna (Film: Dayavan)

No matter how illustrious Mads' career became after Dayavan (Ek Do Teen...anyone?), some people still love to remember the above scene where a much, much senior Vinod Khanna kissed the hell out of the barely-out -of-teens Madhuri Dixit!

Aamir Khan - Karisma Kapoor (Film: Raja Hindustani)

When Aamir Khan does something, it has to be spectacular! So when he kissed Karishma Kapoor (Making her kissing debut here, I believe! And what a debut it was!) in Raja Hindustani, it was as if the scene would never end at all! No complaints there, though, boss!

John Abraham - Abhishek Bachchan (Film: Dostana)

It's more of a cheat than a kiss, but the impact the scene created was enough for people to talk about it for days to come! After all, which mainstream heroes had the guts to perform such an act!

Nandita Das - Shabana Azmi (Film: Fire)

The movie that made literally made Shiv Sena see fire! The Indian movie viewers were still getting used to the idea of two heterosexual people kissing, when Deepa Mehta shoved this lesbian kiss right down their throats! And one of the perpetrators happened to be Shabana Azmi, no less!

Randeep Hooda - Saqib Saleem (Film: Bombay Talkies)

Okay, we managed to get the lesbian kiss out of our system and were able to live with it (...and the pervy ones enjoyed it as well!). Then Karan Johar thought, let's shock the audience once more and made Randeep Hooda and Saqib Saleem go kissie-kissie in a movie that celebrates 100 years of cinema! However, this was not the first gay kiss in a mainstream film - previously, Rahul Bose locked lips with Arjun Mathur in I Am a few years back.

Shahid Kapoor - Kareena Kapoor (Film: Jab We Met)

On the face of it, it was pretty much like any other kiss (Yup, we were now getting used to see people doing morally unacceptable things on screen!). It was the people involved that made the kiss so talked about. Shahid and Kareena were dating publicly, before they had a irreparable break-up. Jab We Met was released by the time they had officially gone their separate ways; the film, ironically, showed their best chemistry ever. More ironical is that kiss in the climax, for it was the first time the ex-lovebirds locked lips on screen.

Jiah Khan - Amitabh Bachchan (Film: Nishabd)

Nishabd was a film that belonged to era when RGV's career began to spiral downwards! It was quite an okay film, but people hated it for its premise - Amitabh Bachchan lusting after a teenage girl! This kiss only added fuel to the fire!

Mallika Sherawat's 17 Kisses (Film: Khwahish)

The only fact we would like to remember about this poor excuse for a film....and about Mallika Sherawat!

Hrithik Roshan - Aishwarya Rai (Film: Dhoom 2)

The kiss was not such a great deal, but the presence of Aishwarya Rai (though this was not her first kiss! That record will always remain with Viveik Oberoi!) is what made it so controversial. At that time she was going to get married to Abhishek Bachchan, so the Bachchans felt the kiss was totally uncalled for. And this happened in a movie, that also featured her future hubby!

Shah Rukh Khan - Katrina Kaif (Film: Jab Tak Hai Jaan)

SRK broke his no-kissing policy for Yash Chopra not once, but thrice! So by the time the third kiss ended, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn remain the only superstars in the current generation to not have kissed on screen! Unless I have missed something somewhere...

Shashi Kapoor - Zeenat Aman (Film: Satyam Shivam Sundaram)

In that bygone era, where uttering the word 'sex' in public can get you horrific stares from all and sundry, you can easily imagine the heat Satyam Shivam Sundaram must have generated with uninhibited kissing scenes and a barely clad Zeenat Aman!

Himanshu Rai - Devika Rani (Film: Karma)

Let's end the article with the first most controversial kiss that ever graced our Indian cinema. It happened in 1933, no less! And by what we heard, the scene created such a furor that Gandhiji himself requested the industry to not show such scenes in future, as it adheres to British sensibilities!

So which of the above kisses have you found the most controversial!
