After Padmaavat, Shahid Kapoor is moving on to a subject that has been talked about a lot with Batti Gul Meter Chalu. Privatisation of electricity in the country has brought about a lot of issues in its wake. The actor's next will broach this serious matter in a funny way. Speaking about it, Shahid told Bollywoodlife, "I connected with it and I understood that it is a very relevant real issue. Electricity is and you know the lack of electricity in many parts of our country and the kind of bills some people get since it has got privatised it is a talking point for the entire country. It is a big issue and when somebody finds a script that’s a film and not a documentary that is entertaining but is talking about an issue and is taking it up, I think everybody will be very curious to know about it. I also discuss it, this month’s bill is so high, AC was on the entire month, the geyser is really big or what, oh this is because of the new fridge. It is so relevant. In Mumbai there are no electricity cuts but you go beyond people have to live with it."
Shahid had recently released the title announcement video which was simply hilarious. He had written, “Let’s celebrate the festival of light with the hope that soon electricity will be a right and not a privilege for all. #BattiGulMeterChalu #ShreeNarayanSingh.” The film is directed by Shree Narayan Singh who had last directed Toilet Ek Prem Katha. The latter also broached an important topic that's plaguing India - open defecation. Now Batti Gul Meter Chalu will take on the rampant power theft in the country. The film releases on August 31 and is produced by KriArj Entertainment.
