His recent avatar as Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab won him a lot of praise and applause.
Shahid is one of those few actors who is known to entertain the audience with varying characters in every film. If it was Tommy Singh recently, it was Haider before that. And the fact that he pulls off both characters so effortlessly adds to the magic. He goes on to admit in a candid chat with a leading daily that it's the influx of younger talent that keeps him on his toes. According to the Jab we Met actor, there's no point in putting one's head in the sand and being in denial. "It's important to see the surroundings and use them positively to do better work."The actor also goes on to admit about how this industry has a place for everybody. "Nobody is indispensable" according to him.
It's about giving the audience a a consistent set of good movies. "You have to constantly give people good movies and when you do that over a long period , a certain amount of loyalty and credibility develops and you are viewed accordingly." says the actor to the leading portal.
But he also talks about how actors who have recently entered the industry have the ability to surprise people as opposed to people who have been in the industry for a longer time. He also squashes all rumours of there being a possible rivalry as he actually feels good when he sees newer actors give off good performances. "This actor has done well in his or her first film itself. What have i been doing for 13 years?" This unabashed honesty about rivalry helps him keep in touch with reality says the actor.
Also, he believes honesty towards work is what matters. "It's as simple as that. it's like, vanilla can't say "A new flavour cannot compete with me. I am always there because I am vanilla."
