In what can be described as a freak incident, Punjabi pop icon Guru Randhawa was apparently assaulted by an unidentified man in Vancouver, Canada after his performance on Sunday. It seems he was hit on the back of the head by the assailant as he was exiting the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. There is no official confirmation as yet from Guru Randhawa or his spokesperson but pictures of the singer post the assault have gone viral. Punjabi singer-actor Preet Harpal took to Facebook to inform fans about the attack. He wrote in Punjabi, "Don't know where the society is progressing towards." Comedian Kapil Sharma is also in Canada with Guru Randhawa for this tour.
It seems Preet was there with Guru when the attack took place. Eyewitnesses said that the man who assaulted Guru was behaving badly throughout his performance as well. It seems cops and ambulance arrived on the spot after this. However, the identity of the attacker is yet to be revealed.
Guru Randhawa is known for his songs Suit Suit, Lahore, High Rated Gabru and Slowly Slowly. For Slowly Slowly, he collaborated with the international artiste, Pitbull. In a statement, he said, "I am quite excited to collaborate with Pitbull and the song has turned out good. Pitbull’s contribution on the song adds a magical spin that gives it yet another international twist. It’s a huge step ahead in going global. This year has been phenomenal with Bhushan (Kumar) ji’s support and T-Series becoming the most viewed channel in the world, I think this collaboration will set Indian music on the global map."
