Though he deleted the tweets later, the damage had been done by then!
Even if his films are not as entertaining as they used to be once upon a time before Aag, you can be sure his tweets still manage to invoke more excitement and banter than his recent releases!
His comeback film in Bollywood, Veerappan had released this Friday to an average box office opening and less than impressive critics' reviews. Having watched the film, I can say that we can see the glimmer of the old Ram Gopal Varma that we have loved once in films like Satya, Company, Jungle and Kaun, but all that is let down by his insistence on taking non-actors for lead roles. I am not talking about Sandeep Bhardwaj who plays Veerappan in the film, or Usha Jadhav who plays his wife - they are first-rate. However, we can't say the same about the rest of the cast. And to think, RGV had handled a similar theme in his very underrated Jungle, that was a much superior film, and even made us think Fardeen Khan can act, at least for some time!
Anyways, Ram Gopal Varma had taken to Twitter to post the rare few positive reviews for the film. In between, he also took time to lash against the negative reviews for the film. He was particularly scathing to one female journalist, Ms Shilpa Jamkhandikar, who covers Bollywood for Reuters India. He posted a picture of hers on his twitter timeline, and wrote, '' So as per your review Veerappan the film is as beautiful as your face.' After that body shaming tweet, he later posted another tweet, 'I am sorry for the content packaged in the intent but will not apologise for the intent behind the content.'
Since then, better sense prevailed over him, and he deleted those tweets and posted the below apology tweets, which he claims, is the first time he has ever done such a thing!
He however kept the tweets about
All I can say to Ramu sir is this - we can understand your anger over the negative reviews, but it's not cool to body shame a journalist just for expressing her opinion!
