Allegedly, Varun Dhawan Shraddha Kapoor paid Rs 50000 each. Read on...
We, as audience, love heist movies. We have whistled our way through when Hrithik Roshan carried out those next to impossible heists in Dhoom 2; we also enjoyed Akshay Kumar and the more realistic heist in Special 26, and of course who could forget Abhishek and Rani duping their way to fortune in Bunty aur Babli. But as disturbing as it may sound, some of our beloved actors have fallen prey to such con men in real life.
Crime branch has arrested two conmen last week and amongst their victims are Bollywood superstars Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan. The criminals, Murali Mangilal Mundhera and Mahesh Khetwani, used to pose as Income Tax officers or officers from Department of Revenue Intelligence to extort money from unsuspecting movie stars.
A news portal reported that the duo revealed how they used to put their plan into action during their interrogation. One of them used to visit Thane unit of the Income Tax department to gather information by interacting with officers and observe their mannerisms. Later on, they used to pose as DRI officers and inform actors of an *income tax raid* coming their way. They would then go on to offer to evade the raid in exchange of money.
Allegedly, Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor paid Rs 50000 each, and Tiger paid Rs 35000 to these guys to ward off raids. Sonu Soon should be thanking the Mumbai police, as according to reports he was the next target of these criminals. The duo was caught when trying to extort money from a famous designer in Bollywood.
Additional Commissioner of Crime Branch KMM Prasanna said, "Both have admitted to extorting money from many Bollywood actors."
