Aanand L Rai turned a year older today
Aanand L Rai has been associated with 9 films in his nine-year-Bollywood career, Nil Battey Sannata(produced by Aanand) being a recent addition. Within less than 10 years this man has given us films like Raanjhanaa and Tanu Weds Manu. The engineer-turned-director has the sensibilities of a common man which reflects in his movies. Aanand’s movies can’t be classified into a particular category like family films or commercial films; his films are simple and high on entertainment! His work is remembered for its characters, story and entertainment quotient.
Let’s have a look at the best films of his career –
Tanu Weds Manu (2011)
Kangana Ranaut and R. Madhavan’s romantic comedy Tanu Weds Manu is one of those movies which are remembered more for their characters than its story. When I say characters I am not only referring to Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) and Manu (R. Madhavan); when you talk of this film you are reminded of Payal (Swara Bhaskar), Pappi ji (Deepak Dobriyal) and Raja (Jimmy Shergill) too and that’s the beauty of a Aanand L Rai movie!
Raanjhanaa is no different when it comes to character sketching, but what I particularly like about this movie is its dialogues. ‘Tumhara pyaar na ho gaya..UPSC ka exam ho gaya. 10 saal se paas hi nai ho raha’,‘Vitamin humse khao aur aashiqui inse ladao’, ‘Hum khoon bahaye, tum aasoon bahao ... saali aashiqui na ho gayi ... laathi charge ho gaya’ are some of the dialogues of the film that will be remembered till eternity.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015)
Who else could have thought of making Tanu and Datto out of Kangana Ranaut? Tanu Weds Manu Returns not only gave the makers great box office collections but it also earned Kangana her third National Award. The baap of all double-role-movies is remembered for its high entertainment quotient, great acting and songs.
