Rajamani has composed music for over 70 films
The Southern film industry has had many great musicians like AR Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja, Yuvan Shankar Raja, SS Thaman and many more. One of them was music director Rajamani. We say was because, sadly, the great musician is no longer with us.
Music composer Rajamani passed away on Sunday, February 14. The musician was 60 years old. Apparently, he suffered from a cardiac arrest from which he failed to recover. A source close the bereaved's family said to a news portal," He suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and passed away last night."
Rajamani's interest in music developed at a young age of 13. He accompanied his father, B.A. Chidambaranath who was making a devotional album called Gangayar Pirakkunnu. Belonging to a long line of Carnatic musicians, Rajamani naturally dabbled with it himself as a kid. Not just classical music, the composer also practiced and experimented with Western and Hindustani schools of music.
He made his debut as a full fledged music director in 1983 with Gramathu Kiligal. This was followed by Kalloori Kanavugal in 1985. After starting out in Kollywood, he entered Mollywood with the film Nullinovikkaathe in 1985. Rajamani scored a lot of fantastic scores for Malayalam films like Ekalavyan, Commissioner, The King, Aram Thampuran and Narasimham.
The famous composer has worked on over 700 films in which 70 were were his very own compositions, for the rest he provided background scores. His last and final composition was for the 2012 Mollywood film Hide n' Seek.
