The third film of the rebooted Star Trek franchise is directed by Justin Lin.
When JJ Abrams passed on the baton of his directorial duties to the Furious 8 director, Justin Lin, so that he can focus on a little movie called Stars Wars VII: The Force Awakens, eyebrows were raised.
JJ Abrams had rebooted the much loved space adventure series with great success in the 2009 movie, Star Trek. Though the second movie, Star Trek Into Darkness was a bit of a letdown, it was nevertheless still entertaining. The reason why both the films got accepted by the usually not-open-to-change audiences (see what happened with the recent reboot to Ghostbusters) is that Abrams understood the love the series still holds among its fans, and rebooted the film without harming (and in fact, respecting) the original legacy. When a director like Justin Lin, known for his over the top yet enjoyable action flicks, takes over from him, that's an opportunity for two different styles of film-making to clash!
However, the early reviews of the film has been very positive with the critics praising the direction of the film. Buoyed by the positive reception, the makers have released a new and final trailer, that has is far more visually appealing. Most of the main characters are given a spot in the trailer, even the new players like Sofia Boutella in a whitewashed appearance and a totally unrecognisable Idris Elba. The trailer's MVP is definitely Karl Urban's dry, sarcastic Dr McCoy. And of course, those beautiful visual framery of Star Trek enterprise traipsing through space and the hurdles inside it.
