Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the title of the eighth film in the Skywalker saga

Now when the stand alone Star Wars film, titled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has hit the jackpot at the box office by being the latest entrant in the billion dollar club, the makers surprised us all by announcing the title of the much awaited eighth part in Skywalker saga. The title goes, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Since the announcement fans went crazy over the title and everyone started guessing whom the title is referring to. Well, if the fans remember correctly then the obvious choice is Luke Skywalker. He has been called 'The Last Jedi' quite a few times in other films. In Return Of Jedi a dying Yoda tells him, "Luke, when gone am I, the last of the Jedi you will be." Also later in The Force Awakens, Supreme Leader Snoke while addressing BB-8, says, "The droid will soon be delivered to the Resistance, leading them to the last Jedi.'' Also the opening crawl in the film starts with, "Skywalker, the last Jedi."

Apart from Luke Skywalker, the other likely suspect is Rey. Though Rey being the Last, however, seems odd, since she's been much more about beginnings than endings. She could also be the last one trained in the ways of the Jedi, then become something else.

After the likely suspects, the unlikely one in Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren, son of Han Solo. He was trained by Luke before turning into the dark side just like Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader. So he was known as the last Jedi to be trained in the art as after his turn, Luke went into exile and he was the only who knew the art. And as he has turned to the dark side, that explains him being the last jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, releases on December 15, 2017 and will follow the story of Rey's encounter with Luke Skywalker.
