After several reports revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has been tapped to pen down Suicide Squad 2, Warner Bros have confirmed that the director is indeed writing the super villain sequel. The director joins the DC Films camp after he was fired from Marvel Studios following a series of old offensive tweets surfaced on Twitter. The filmmaker, who had penned down the script of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, was preparing to film the GotG Vol 3 but he was shown the exit door.
There were rumours that Warner Bros had approached him to join the studio a few months ago. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Gunn will be joining the camp as a writer and possibly direct the Suicide Squad sequel as well. “Gunn has closed a deal to pen the script. At this stage, there is no director deal, but talks could proceed depending on the outcome of the scripting process,” THR writes.
Following the announcement, Suicide Squad director David Ayer also gave Gunn his blessings. The director called WB brave for hiring the director. “I think it’s an incredibly brave and smart move by the studio. James is the right man for the job!” he tweeted.
Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista took to Twitter to react to the news and said he’d like to sign up for the movie. The wrestler-turned-actor has been continuously supporting Gunn throughout the Marvel vs James Gunn controversy. The actor also threatened to leave the Guardians series.
Suicide Squad was not well-received by critics and fans. So, we are hoping that Gunn’s addition to the squad would help Suicide Squad 2 put up a better show. What do you think about James Gunn’s addition to Suicide Squad 2? Tweet to @bollywood_life and let us know your thoughts.
