Suriya's 24 villain Athreya may have been inspired by Dr Harrison Wells from The Flash--here's proof!

Athreya reminds us so much of the Reverse Flash, we can explain why.

By now all of you must have seen 24, if you have not, then spoiler alert! One of the best things about the Vikram Kumar movie was the villainous Athreya, played by Suriya, whose cunning and manipulation skills is unparalleled. But many of you would not have seen the uncanny similarities that the villain Athreya had with a very prominent character in The Flash. We are talking about Dr Harrison Wells alias Eobard Thawne alias Reverse Flash of course. Let's take a look at what makes them so similar... Both Harrison Wells and Athreya are bound to a wheelchair. The wheelchairs are similar in design with a joystick mechanism that propels it forward and backward. The looks of Athreya and Wells too match to some extent, both are bespectacled, clean shaven and look like a good guy, but they are not. Only difference is that Dr Wells feigns his handicap whereas in case of Suriya's character Athreya, it is very real.

Manipulative techniques

Both Dr Wells and Athreya have very similar manipulative strategies. Athreya acts like Mani's father and urges him to fix the watch so that he can travel back in time and prevent his parent's murder. Wells uses the exact same excuse to motivate Barry Allen(The Flash) to run faster so that he can travel back in time and stop the Reverse Flash from murdering his mother. Ironically, it is Athreya himself who murders Mani's parents and it is Reverse Flash himself who kills Barry's mother.

Time travel

In both The Flash and 24, time travel is a very crucial concept. The motive behind both the villains in manipulating their respective heroes is so that they can travel in time to a point where they can regain control of their lives. While for Athreya it means going back 26 years into the past, killing the heroes parents and Mani himself and taking the watch, for Reverse Flash it is going centuries into the future and killing The Flash then. Both need to go in a specific time zone to fulfill their ulterior motives.
