Vijay's Bairavaa hit theatres on January 12. It was a solo Tamil release for Ilayathalapathy as other Kollywood releases backed out of the BO game. Within 4 days of its release, the movie managed to collect Rs 80 crore at the TN box office, inching towards the Rs 100 crore mark. But last week, movie releases came to a complete halt as Tamil Nadu came together to fight for the ban against Jallikattu. Millions assembled on Marina Beach, observed fasts to fight against Supreme Court's decision to ban this bull sport. Soon after, celebs also joined in the protests. The Nadigar Sangam ( South Indian Artists Association) members observed a day fast to express their support for Jallikattu. Ajith, Vijay, Rajinikanth, Suriya, Karthi, Trisha, Vishal, Jayam Ravi were present on Nadigar Sangam grounds and had requested the media not to cover their event as they didn't want the spotlight shifted from the main cause. While Tamil Nadu has passed the bill that allows Jallikattu to be a permanent act, following this protest, this event has affected Pongal releases' BO collections. Even more because theatres remained shut during the day of the protests and opened again only in the evening. According to reports on Behindwoods, the movie saw a 50% dip in its collections. But now with Suriya's Singam 3 postponed for another day, Vijay's Bairavaa might witness a major boost. What with the Republic Day Weekend and Bhairava being the only big Tamil release this week, the movie might see a major jump in its collections. There's another Tamil move - Adhe Kangal that has planned to slip into the 26th Jan slot soon after Suriya's singam 3 got postponed, but it's unlikely to prove a threat to Vijay's Bairavaa.
