The recently launched the song from Dibaker Banerjee's next, a period detective movie has come under the scanner...
Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Detective Byomkesh Bakshy's song Calcutta kiss was launched amidst a lot of fanfare. 50 dancers got together at the Howrah Bridge on February 3 and performed to this number to commemorate the popular monument's birthday. However, the word 'Calcutta' seems to have upset a few groups who are raising objection. Like Bombay Velvet, DBB is set in 1940s. The Censor Board has given a go-ahead to Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer Anurag Kashyap film.
This retro number too has become quite popular, however it seems some groups in Kolkata have written to Dibakar to change the song title from Calcutta Kiss to Kolkata Kiss.Dibaker however finds these objections bizarre and has voiced his angst in very strong words, “Those who are objecting are doing this to get some limelight. That’s how you get your 15 minutes of fame. Also, this was not completely unexpected because, in India today, everyone is always ready to take offence."
What's also a concern is that a directive by the Censor Board states that old names of cities cannot be used in films. And although the director is aware of this, he hopes to make the members of the body understand.
Dibakar adds, “If there is any objection, I will talk to them (censor board members) and explain that the film has 1943 as its backdrop. Kolkata was called Calcutta then, and the song is a swing jazz track. I am sure they will understand.”
Earlier, Karan Johar had to change 'Bombay' to 'Mumbai' in his Ranbir starrer Wake Up Sid after MNS objected to it. Will Sushant's film face similar fate? Well, watch this space for all updates...
