M S Dhoni - The Untold Story had all the trappings of being a biopic on a sportsman that we will love to watch. It spoke about India's most loved captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who is fondly called Captain Cool. In fact, everytime he captains India, we know it is in safe hands. Even when we have been defeated under his captaincy, we have sided with him, supported and consoled him. We don't take any s**t from anyone regarding him, he is that dear to us. So when someone like Neeraj Pandey decides to make a film on him, we all are intrigued. The film released yesterday and given our enthusiasm for the film, it recorded a huge day 1 total, second only to Salman Khan's Sultan. It has earned 21. 30 cr which has put it right behind Sultan and above Shah Rukh Khan's Fan.
Yes you read right. By earning 21. 30 cr on its first day, MS Dhoni-The Untold Story has managed to go past Fan's 19. 20 cr total on its day 1. Now, we did tell you that the film took a massive opening yesterday. Our trade expert Amul Mohan, Editor Supercinema, couldn’t get a ticket too. In an EXCLUSIVE chat with us, he revealed, “M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story has opened phenomenally. For a non-holiday day, the occupancy and numbers are crazy! I can’t get a ticket too… The occupancy is well over 60 per cent across all the territories in India. So it is really big that way. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a relevant player for India right now. The craze about him, anything Dhoni does is BIG. Everything’s coming together very well for the movie and it will open BIG! Everyone has treated them like a big film because generally exhibitors and distributors try to play safe and try to get the movie going with a small release. But these guys have gone all out and that risk is going to pay off brilliantly." And indeed it paid off. Registering a 21. 30 cr haul on its first day huge a deal for a film which has Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead.

No points for guessing who is on top of the tally, our very own Sultan with 36. 54 cr. Apart from Aamir Khan's Dangal, we don't think any film can manage to even touch that number.
