Back in 2011, Kangana Ranaut was still trying to make her presence felt in the industry when she starred in Anand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu. Now as the sequel beckons us, Kangana is one of the most sought after actress in the industry post her National Award winning performance in Queen. With the quintessential lover boy R Madhavan making a comeback, naturally, the expectations surrounding Tanu Weds Manu Returns is bound to be sky high.
Does Anand L Rai dish out a quirky desi treat yet again just like Tanu Weds Manu? Lets find out! I took a quick look at the trailer and below are my thoughts on it:
The trailer starts off at an interesting point as Tanu and Manu are heading for a divorce. While Tanu's parents are searching for a groom again, Manu falls for a Tanu look a like Haryanvi athlete Kusum. As the Manu heads to marry Kusum, enters Raja Awasthi played by Jimmy Shergill to add a twist to proceedings. Will Manu realise that he is still in love with Tanu before its too late forms the crux of the story.
Kangana Ranaut is brilliant as the theeki chori Tanu and Madhavan reprises his simple sweet guy role from Tanu Weds Manu, but it is Kangana's Haryanavi speaking, hockey stick wielding, tomboy Kusum that steals the show. Kangana is spectacular as Kusum and looks and speaks so differently that it would be hard for the audience to take their eyes of her. Overall, the trailer has enough quirky elements and sweet moments to keep you hooked. Now I am eagerly awaiting for May 22 when the film releases.
