Telugu Film Producers Council to stop release of Rangasthalam and other Telugu films in TN to lend support to Tamil Cinema Strike

Rangasthalam will be pulled out of Tamil Nadu theatres from Sunday.

The Tamil cinema strike has been going on for quite sometime. The stand off between producers and Digiital service providers continues as both parties haven't come to a common solution yet. As a result, no new releases have hit theatres since March 16th. Apart from dangerously low footfalls, films of other languages have been dominating the Chennai box office. A week ago, it was Pacific Rim Uprising and Hichki taking over the Chennai BO and this Monday, we saw Rangasthalam take on the number one position. The Ram Charan - Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer hit theatres on 30th March. A Telugu film witnessed its highest opening till date at the Chennai Box office. However, as per the latest update, The Telugu Film Producers Council has decided to step in and show their solidarity to the Tamil Nadu producers. The Council has decided that they would stop the release of Telugu films in Tamil Nadu from Sunday. That means, Rangasthalam would stop running in Tamil Nadu Theaters in four days. With the producers uniting for a common cause, will theater owners comply to their request? In other news, a few theatres have decided to seek permission to screen IPL matched instead in the light of no new Tamil releases.

While films in other languages made the most of the Easter weekend, the Kollywood industry lost out big time. Here's hoping the government intervenes and helps the TPFC come to a solution. If that takes place, we might just get to see new Tamil films as the New Year approaches on April 13th
