It was finally confirmed yesterday that actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is playing the role of Bal Thackeray in his biopic, Thackeray that releases on January 23, 2019. The makers unveiled the teaser yesterday in the presence of Amitabh Bachchan. The teaser starts off with a visual of a Mumbai slum. It is one of the shanties you see in so many areas of the city. The art director is perfect. Later, we are taken to the 1993 Mumbai riots. It is technically flawless so far but when we see Nawaz as Bal Thackeray, we are totally blown away. It takes us a minute to register that the man before us is not the actual late Shiv Sena supremo. To say that the resemblance is uncanny, would be a gross understatement. It is just eerie.
The film is being made by Rauters Entertainment, produced by Shiv Sena leader and producer - writer Sanjay Raut. The director is Abhijit Panse. The teaser was unveiled by Amitabh Bachchan. Nawazuddin tweeted that it was an honour to play the 'Real King' of the country on celluloid. With his charisma, oratory and intellect, Bal Thackeray impressed one and all. Thackeray started his career as a cartoonist with the Free Press Journal. He founded the political party in 1966.
There are a lot of discussions about a Muslim actor playing the role of the fierce politician. However, Sanjay Raut dismissed those claims telling mid-day, "Balasaheb never hated Muslims. He was never against them. His fight was against those who supported Pakistan, and encouraged terrorism, irrespective of their religion." The filmmaker Abhijit Panse is a member of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. Stay tuned to Bollywood Life for more scoop and updates...
