Both the movies are being loved by fans!
Hollywood dominates Bollywood again, indeed. While the Ram Gopal Varma flick Veerappan is being lauded by critics and is also being hailed as the comeback film of the director, after many box office duds, it still got beaten by a Hollywood flick.
Sandeep Bhardwaj stars as the titular character in Veerappan. His transformation as the infamous dacoit is unbelievably gritty. Despite all the praise coming the film’s way, it only managed to gross a small amount of Rs 1.77 Crores on its opening day at the box office. The movie also stars Sachiin J Joshi, Usha Jadhav and Lisa Ray.
The Angry Birds Movie proved yet again that Bollywood needs to stop taking Hollywood releases lightly now. After the immense success of The Jungle Book that hogged up box office collections of movies released around the same time, TABM also seems to be going down the same path. The animated movie based on the popular video game grossed Rs 2.16 Crores at the box office. The number is quite impressive for an opening day.
Clearly it’s now pretty dangerous for Bollywood films to cross paths with Hollywood at the box office. A few weeks ago it was Captain America: Civil War giving stern competition to Sunny Leone’s One Night Stand, Sharman Joshi’s 1920 London, Tiger Shroff-Shraddha Kapoor’s Baaghi, and now TABM is turning out to be a tough competitor for Hindi movies.
The other movies released this week include Kalki Koechlin’s Waiting and Radhika Apte’s psychological thriller Phobia. Waiting to see if these two movies should be phobic to the Hollywood film or not!
