Lipstick Under My Burkha will finally see a release on July 21 which is good news of course. Censor Board's stand to not certify it because it is too feminine had appalled everyone. But now that everything is sorted, it even found a very reliable presenter in Ekta Kapoor. And it seems the effect of that can been seen on the new poster of the film. It reminded us of Kapoor's Love, Sex, Aur Dhokha and Anurag Kashyap's Dev D.
It's more to do with the striking and garish colour template of these posters. It arrests your attention immediately. The new poster of LUMB has the middle finger in the shape of a lipstick with collages of the women in the film. It's a vibrant poster and gives an inkling that the topic it addresses will be brazen too. The use of the colour pink is lavishly done which can bee seen on LSD and Dev D's posters as well. Both the films were path-breakers. LSD was a digital movie that exposed the mindset about sex in India and Dev D gave a grungy twist to the eternal Devdas. Before that, nobody had thought that Devdas Mukherjee could have been so sadist. LUMB, too, will be revolutionary as it talks about that one statement which generally gets overlooked, "Women have needs too."
Speaking about the move to seek out Ekta Kapoor for Lipstick Under My Burkha, producer Prakash Jha had told Mumbai Mirror, "Ekta has done path-breaking work with her women characters. She’s inverted the power structure on television, making women characters the epicentre of the power game. She has a strong feminist pulse and I was keen to know what she felt about our film. She told me she wanted to present it through her studio and I thought it would be fantastic for the film.”
Lipstick Under My Burkha will take on Munna Michael at the box office.
