In the battle of box office, Akshay has decimated Hrithik brutally!
When we first heard about Akshay Kumar's Rustom clashing with Hrithik Roshan's Mohenjo Daro, we can't say we were elated. Clashes have hardly benefited both the parties. And the moment the trailers released, it was pretty clear who had the upperhand in this clash. Since then, Rustom had only slayed Mohenjo Daro piece by piece and is still doing so. Let us tell you the ways in which it brutally massacred Hrithik's film.
Mohenjo Daro's trailer released earlier (June 20), and the moment it hit the internet, it became the butt of all kinds of social media jokes. It didn't help that historians picked flaws in depiction of the oldest human civilizations. Akshay's Rustom trailer released nine days later and got instant good reaction. It was an unanimously liked trailer, thanks to the actor's robust presence. Clearly, Akshay beat Hrithik in first reaction.

Innovations in terms of marketing strategy is a thing Shah Rukh Khan excels in. Many might call Aamir Khan a genius but it's SRK who has aced it everytime. But Akshay used a clever trick employed by Hrithik Roshan for Bang Bang in 2014. He got the Bollywood stars to pitch in for his film. It began with Salman Khan, the newly crowned Sultan of Bollywood whose fans abide by Bhai's words like a oath. It was followed by Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh, Fawad Afzal Khan and many more. Whereas apart from Akshay Kumar himself, Farhan Akhtar, and the self proclaimed Hrithik fan Tiger Shroff, Mohenjo Daro hardly got the love of the industry. This bared the truth behind Hrithik getting alienated from the industry. Clearly, Akshay won it!

#First day moolah
We told you how Rustom's occupancy was better than Mohenjo Daro on its first day. Akshay's thriller got 40-50 per cent occupancy while Mohenjo Daro managed only 30 percent. The clear impact of it was seen in the day 1 collections of the film, Rustom made 14. 11 cr whereas Hrithik's period drama made only 8. 87 cr. It proved that Akshay's film was the audience's first preference.
#Opening weekend bonanza
Here too Rustom was far ahead of Mohenjo Daro by earning 68. 23 cr on its extended weekend. Hrithik's period love saga could only manage 40. 90cr at the box office. Even on week days, film hardly slumped more than the usual while Mohenjo Daro kept on dipping further.
#Highest first Monday collection goes to Rustom
Mondays always see a big drop since it's a weekday. But August 15 was Independence Day and so, both Rustom and Mohenjo Daro managed good numbers but Akshay's film went past even Salman Khan's Sultan by earning more than 17 crore.
#Hrithik-Akshay bromance funda
Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar never went all nasty with each other despite the clash. In fact, they lauded the trailers of each other's films. Check out the exchange here
Again Hrithik in his countdown video to the releases tweeted about Rustom as well.
That's not all. Hrithik even congratulated Akshay on Rustom's success with a slightly weird tweet.
You would think this might have send some cheer Mohenjo Daro's way as well but unfortunately, it worked in Akshay's favour. The film has already entered the 100 crore club and is poised to earned more brownie points while Hrithik's film struggle to touch the 50 cr mark.
Hence, it is pretty obvious that Akshay didn't have to do anything to make Rustom a winner other than being part of a better film in this clash.
