The shooting of Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt starrer Bhuj: The Pride of India has been going in full swing. The crew have wrapped up Hyderabad schedule and are currently filming in Mandvi, Gujarat. And now, we have one more actor, who has joined this principal cast and he is Mahesh Shetty, who has played key roles in television serials like Pavitra Rishta, Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Parichay and many more. He also played a pivotal character in Riteish Deshmukh's Banjo. Mahesh shared his experience of working with Ajay Devgn and told Mumbai Mirror, “I play Ajay sir’s brother, Laxman Karnik, in the film. It’s a real-life story about two brothers stationed in Bhuj during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. Working with Ajay sir is a tick mark off my bucket list.”
Talking about the sets and shooting process, Mahesh revealed, “We shot at real locations, including the airport in Mandvi. The whole war set-up for filming included as many as 700-800 extras and several aircraft from that era, which made it easier for me to act.” The actor also shared that he had to do a fair bit of research for his character and go through several auditions. “The Bhuj airstrip is one of the most famous stories around the war, so of course, I was aware of it. But I had to do extensive homework to play Laxman convincingly. Knowing a lot of people in the air force came handy. Since the film is set in a different era, I met a lot of veterans from the force. Abhishek Dudhaiya was extremely well-prepared, which made work relatively easier.”
Talking about the characters, Ajay Devgn essays the role of Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, who was in-charge of the Bhuj Airport during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. On the other hand, Sanjay Dutt plays the character of Ranchordas Svabhai Ravari, who helped the army during the war. While Parineeti will play an Indian spy named Heena Rehman, Sonakshi will be seen as a social worker named Sunderben Jetha Madharparya. It is set to hit the screens on August 14, 2020.
